And on those blue-skied sunny days when heading out for an urban adventure also seems like a good idea, consider visiting a warming tasting room or two at some choice breweries and wineries in the area. Or make it easy on yourself by following this beer-tastic and cleverly curated BC Ale Trail, which includes visits to three delicious Richmond options.

Fuggles Beer

103 – 11220 Horseshoe Way, Richmond, BC

One of Metro Vancouver’s most celebrated craft breweries, multi-award-winning Fuggles has been fusing its unique nerd-cool sensibilities with top-notch ale-making skills for many years. But they never rest on their laurels here and they continue to innovate with amazing beers that you’ll quickly add to your all-time favourites list. Visit their brilliant and highly welcoming tasting room, where regular events range from trivia nights to live music.

Britannia Brewing

250 – 12240 Second Avenue, Richmond, BC

Located in the cozy heart of shoreline Steveston Village, this friendly little taphouse serves a great array of perfect winter dishes (their chunky clam chowder is a belly warming must on the chilliest days). But the best way to start your visit is with a four-glass tasting flight––just be sure it includes their lip-smacking Sirens Chai Saison and Boardwalk Hazy Pale Ale, if available. And if it’s too cold to head back outside, order up some fortifying fish and chips as well.

Monkey 9 Brewing

180 – 14200 Entertainment Boulevard, Richmond, BC

An ideal destination if you’re planning a great night out––Lucky 9 Lanes bowling is located right next door––Monkey 9 has a tempting menu of elevated pub dishes (we’re big fans of their 3:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday to Friday happy hour, where deals on pizzas, cheeseburgers, popcorn shrimp and more abound). Beer-wise, you’ll also find some easy-drinking IPA, lager and kolsch options here, as well as a guest tap or two from other B.C. makers.

Fall drink recommendation: Mizaru American Brown Ale

Second round suggestion: Eclectic English Porter

Country Vines Winery

13060 Steveston Highway, Richmond, BC

Located in a leafy corner of the expansive Richmond Country Farms site––pick up some produce at the giant market while you’re here as well––this charmingly rustic tasting room is an easy spot to relax for an hour or two. Sample choice small-batch tipples at the bar and you’ll quickly find a wine or two that you’d like to take home with you (many bottles here are enticingly well-priced). There are some nicely fruited whites to consider plus top-notch merlot and cabernet merlots to try.

Fall drink recommendation: Estate Grown Pinot Gris

Second round suggestion: Estate Grown Schonburger

Lulu Island Winery

16880 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC

This huge, Tuscan-look destination winery is a hotspot for thirsty Metro Vancouver grape fans. But since the vine-striped grounds may be a little chilly at this time of year (stroll through the grape tunnel if you get the chance, though), beeline to one of the large tasting rooms inside. Sample from the wide range of wines––they make everything from table reds to icewines here–– and you’ll soon find a lip-smacking favourite. Consider dropping by on Fridays for their free-entry Vibes & Vino event, complete with live music and wine specials.
